So, plans are moving ahead. The inability to apparently book open-jaw travel as part of a package deal, and the fact that park tickets and the actual hotel prices seem a little more expensive than when booked separately, not less as one might expect, mean we have to do a little more work ourselves and book these elements separately, but Sheila and I have made good progress tonight.
First, we've booked a Kids Suite (hooray, that means some peace at least for us grown-ups!) for six nights at the Portofino Bay Hotel (one of the three on-site hotels at the Universal Orlando resort), from Sun 2nd Oct to Sat 8th Oct.
Now that we know we are doing Orlando first, we've also booked flights from New York JFK to Orlando MCO, for early on Sun 2nd. This is with Delta, a budget US airline... we'll see how they shape up compared to Ryanair. I hardly think they can be worse.
And finally, we've booked one night at the Hampton Inn JFK Airport for the overnight stop just after arrival. This is cheap and cheerful, but all we need for that night as we will mostly be concerned simply with sleeping after a long long day in the air.
